Booking & Payment

How do I book a bike?

Browse bikes, pick your dates, and send a booking request. The shop reviews and accepts it — usually within an hour. Once accepted, you have a confirmed reservation. There is no charge on the platform at this step.

What payment methods do you accept?

You pay the rental fee and the refundable deposit directly to the shop in cash (Thai Baht) on pickup day. ThaiRide does not charge your card. A small service fee of 5% (minimum 100 THB) is already included in the price the renter sees.

When am I charged?

Never online. You pay the rental, deposit, and any optional delivery fee to the shop in cash when you collect the bike. If a request is declined or you cancel before pickup, no money has moved.

Where is my receipt?

The shop hands you a paper receipt on pickup, and your booking summary lives on the "My Bookings" page in your account. Ask the shop to write the bike model and dates on the receipt if you need it for travel insurance.

What is the cancellation policy?

Free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup. Within 24 hours the shop may ask for a small fee — most shops are flexible. Use "Cancel request" in My Bookings and message the shop to let them know.

How long does a refund take?

Nothing is charged online, so there is nothing to refund through ThaiRide. Your cash deposit is returned by the shop at drop-off, on the spot, minus any agreed damages.

Pickup & Delivery

Should I pick up at the shop or have it delivered?

Both work. Pickup at the shop is the default and always free. Delivery to your hotel is offered by most shops in their service area — often free in their home town and a small flat fee outside it.

What is the delivery range and fee?

Each shop sets its own. The standard is free delivery inside their home city (e.g. Patong, Karon, Kamala) and a flat 100–300 THB for nearby areas. The fee shows on the bike card and at booking before you confirm.

How do I schedule the delivery time?

Once your booking is accepted, message the shop through the in-app chat with your hotel name and a 1-hour window. Most shops confirm within an hour.

What if I am running late for pickup?

Send the shop a quick message — they will usually hold the bike until you arrive later that day. If you go more than 24 hours late without contact, the shop can release the booking and re-rent the bike.

Documents & Deposit

What licence do I need?

Thai law requires an International Driving Permit (IDP) endorsed for motorcycles, plus your home country licence. Bring both originals — shops are required to check. A car-only IDP is not valid for a motorbike.

Will the shop keep my passport as a deposit?

No. ThaiRide shops do not hold passports — it is not safe and not our standard. The shop will photocopy or photograph your passport for their records and return the original to you immediately.

What deposit will I pay at the shop?

A cash deposit, typically 1,000–5,000 THB depending on the bike, paid to the shop at pickup. They return it in full at drop-off, minus any damages or unpaid fuel. No card hold and no online charge.

What is the minimum age?

You must be at least 18 to ride in Thailand. Some shops require 20+ for higher-displacement bikes (300cc and up). Your IDP and home licence must be valid for motorcycles.

During the Rental

What do I do if I have an accident?

Stay safe and call the Thai emergency line — 1669 for medical, 191 for police. Take photos of the scene, get a police report if any injury or third-party damage, and message the shop immediately. Do not move the bike if there is a dispute.

The bike will not start or has a problem on the road — what now?

Call the shop first. Most shops provide roadside support or a swap bike within their service area. Keep your receipt and the bike key; do not try your own repairs.

Can I return the bike late?

Message the shop as soon as you know. Late return is usually charged at a per-hour or per-day rate — often 50–100 THB per hour, with a full extra day kicking in after 3–4 hours.

What is the fuel policy?

Pick up the bike with whatever fuel is in the tank, return it with the same level. Petrol stations are everywhere in Thailand — "Gasohol 91" or "Gasohol 95" works for almost every scooter.

Helmets, passengers — what is required?

Thai law requires helmets for both driver and passenger; police actively ticket riders without one, especially in tourist areas. Every ThaiRide shop provides a free helmet with the bike. Carrying one pillion passenger is legal and common.

Traffic fines, crossing provinces, leaving Thailand?

Any fines incurred during your rental are your responsibility — keep your booking confirmation handy. You can cross Thai provinces freely. You cannot legally take a Thai motorbike across the border into Laos, Cambodia, or Malaysia.
